Grades – How to Release Final Grades

Did you know that students can’t see the Calculated or Adjusted Final Grade until you release it? This is the default setting and prevents the students from seeing their final grade until you are ready for them to see it. Grades are usually released when all the grade items are completed.

Step By Step Instructions

1. Change the Settings in your Grade Area

Go to Grades > Enter Grades > Settings

Select the Calculation Options tab at the top right

Under the Final Grade Released section, select either Release Calculated Final Grade or Adjusted Final Grade > select Automatically release final grade > Save

2. Release the grade

Back in the Enter Grades window, click the beside the Final Calculated Grade (or Adjusted Grade – it doesn’t matter) and select Enter Grades.
You need to tick all the boxes in the 2nd last column for students to be able to view their final grade. You can do them all at once – read on.

If you selected Calculated Final Grade in the settings:

When you tick those boxes and Save, the Calculated Final Grade is available to students.
You can release all the grades at once by selecting all the students in the class, and then click “Release All” at the top of the page, then click the Save button at the bottom of the page.

If you selected Adjusted Final Grade in the settings:

You will need to transfer the grade from the Calculated column over to the Adjusted column then tick the release box.  That will show students their grade.

You can transfer all the calculated grades to the Final Adjusted Grade column, in one step.
Up at the top of the page, click on the beside the Final Grades title and select “Transfer All“. That moves the Calculated grade to the Adjusted Grade column. You can then change the grades for those students who need adjusting.
Click the Save button at the bottom of the page.
You can release all the grades at once by clicking on that beside the Final Grades title at the top of the page and selecting “Release All“, then click the Save button at the bottom of the page.

Preview What a Student Sees

Select Grades > Enter Grades> select the drop down beside a student > Preview.

The pop up will display exactly what that student sees when they go to the Grades area. If you release the Final Calculated Grade or Final Adjusted Grade, you’ll see that total at the top of the page called Weight Achieved. (see image in next accodion listed below).
