Kaltura Mediaspace
Kaltura Mediaspace is BCIT’s front facing solution for video storage and sharing among staff, faculty, students & the general public. Unlike the Kaltura tools found in the Learning Hub, Mediaspace allows departments and their faculty members to create and manage their own video repositories.
Mediaspace accomplishes this through the use of Galleries which departments can request the ETS team to create for them. These Galleries can be further subdivided into Channels which are created and managed by the owner of a Gallery.
Navigating Mediaspace
Home
To access Mediaspace, visit https://mediaspace.bcit.ca/ . Click “guest” in the upper right corner then “login”. Proceed to log in.
While visiting any page on Mediaspace, you can return to the homepage by clicking “Home”.
Galleries
The above highlighted areas refer to galleries. To learn more, check out the Mediaspace Galleries job aid.
All Channels
Click All Channels to view the channels that are viewable by anyone with a BCIT ID as well as Private channels that you have membership access into. Channels can be searched by using either the Search for Channels search bar or Sort By, near the top.
If you are the owner of at least one Mediaspace Gallery then you will also have the ability to create new channels from here. You can do this by clicking on the + Create Channel button.
For further information, see the Mediaspace Channels job aid.
Help
Under Help you will find links to different resource sites at BCIT.
Search Tool
Click the search icon to reveal the Mediaspace search bar. Type in your keywords into the search bar and then on your keyboard hit Enter (or Return).
The search feature will do a search inside Mediaspace and then pull up any videos, Channels or Galleries whose metadata most closely match the characters you have typed into the search bar.
+ Add New
Under “add new”, you can add new content using five options:
These options function exactly the same as they do inside the Learning Hub with the exception of the Youtube option. This option is exclusive to Mediaspace Only
To use Youtube, click on the Youtube option. Paste the shared link of the Youtube video into the field under Video Page Link (or Content ID) and then click preview. After that fill in the rest of the required form fields, save it and it will appear under your My Media
Personal Options
Click your name (upper right corner) to see options that are unique to your account. These options are:
- My Media
- My Channels
- My History
- Watch Later
- Logout
My Media
My Media in Mediaspace functions exactly the same as it does on the Learning Hub. The only difference is that you can publish your videos into Mediaspace Galleries or Channels that you have contributor access (or higher) into.
Please note that in Mediaspace you cannot publish or unpublish videos into and from the Learning Hub (or vice versa). To publish videos into a Learning Hub course, please use Kaltura on the Learning Hub.
My Channels
My Channels will display the collection of Channels you have manager (or owner) rights into. It is a quick way of directly accessing your Channels rather than having to search for them inside All Channels or a Media Gallery they are published into.
My History
My History will display a list of all of the videos that you have previously watched from the most recent to the latest. You can clear your history by click on the Clear History button.
Watch Later
The Watch Later area will display a Playlist with all of the videos that you have marked ‘Add to watch later’. To view these videos, click ‘Watch Now’. To remove these videos, click Edit, click the ‘–‘ icon next to the video, and then click Save.
Logout
Click your name in the upper right corner to log out of Mediaspace.
Language Options
Language in Mediaspace is set to English (American) by default. Click the Language options (EN) and then click your preferred language to change the language that is displayed in Mediaspace to the one you have selected.
