Overview of Integrity Advocate and Best Practices for Instructors
Integrity Advocate is the remote proctoring software integrated into the Learning Hub.
It is important that both instructors and students familiarize themselves with Integrity Advocate so that they are prepared and can address issues should they arise.
Instructor resources:
- Remote Exam Proctoring @ BCIT workshop on the Employee Learning Centre under My Courses
- Integrity Advocate Overview in Brightspace (Youtube video). Please note: The number of exam attempts and rules being implemented are determined by the instructor. Also, the time to receive the IA report can take minutes to hours depending on whether it is during a busy period
- Instructor Reference Guide from IA
- System requirements
- ETS Job Aids for IA
- ETS support at BCIT
- See the student job aid

Remote Testing Best Practices
- Use the Chrome browser
- Use for midterm or final exams
- Communicate rules
- Communicate penalties
- Inform students to read the job aid, “Integrity Advocate Overview and Preparation for Students“. Then
review the section to prepare for an IA quiz with students - Create a practice test and use the “demo” mode of IA to help familiarize students with IA, the quiz process, and any technical issues that may arise
- Set the test availability
- Set the test length to allow students to complete it without the need for a biological break
- Use large question pools that well exceed the number of questions in the exam
- Add one question per page
- Randomize questions
- Randomize choices in multiple-choice questions
- Have students take the test at the same time
