Indigenous Services
The Gathering Place
The Indigenous Gathering Place is a comfortable, welcoming and safe space for students, families and staff. Mi Chap Tukw, the BCIT Indigenous Gathering Place (IGP) is located on the Burnaby campus at SW1-1521.
Mi Chap Tukw
Mi Chap Tukw means “a home away from home,” the logo, which is called Snewayelh, means “teachings,” and the hand symbolizes the transfer of knowledge from one generation to the next, raised in the Coast Salish welcome gesture.
Through cultural and educational activities, Mi Chap Tukw creates a sense of inclusion and belonging for Indigenous students. Students and staff across BCIT are invited to participate in ceremonies celebrating the diversity and richness of the Indigenous culture.
Indigenous students are encouraged to enjoy this space and have access to:
- Fully equipped kitchen
- Student computer lounge
- Common studying area
