Choosing an Online Assessment Security Tool

Use the level of security that is appropriate for the assessment. Respondus LockDown Browser and Integrity Advocate cannot be used together.

Use Respondus LockDown Browser	Use Integrity Advocate
Choose this option when you need to restrict access to other websites, applications, printing, copying, and browser-based AI tools during a Learning Hub quiz.	Choose this option only for a very high-stakes exam that is delivered fully online and requires remote proctoring.
Best suited to regular quizzes, midterms, and exams where browser restriction is sufficient, including assessments completed in a classroom, lab, or other supervised setting.	Best suited to exceptional circumstances, such as accreditation, certification, or documented program requirement. Integrity Advocate is not appropriate for in-person assessments.

Before you choose

Consider whether an open-book, authentic, or application-based assessment could meet the learning outcomes without additional security controls.
Confirm that the selected tool is compatible with students’ approved accommodations and required assistive technology.
Enable only one tool for the assessment.
