Overview of Integrity Advocate (IA) and Preparation for Students
Integrity Advocate is remote proctoring software that BCIT uses in the Learning Hub. It is important that students familiarize themselves with it so that they are prepared and can address issues should they arise.
Student resources:
- YouTube video, Integrity Advocate Overview in Brightspace. Please note: The number of exam attempts and rules being implemented are determined by your instructor. In addition, the time to receive an IA report can take minutes to hours depending on whether it is during a busy period.

- Desktop Walkthrough of the User Experience Note: The walkthrough gives you a general idea of how IA works at a different school. Some screens may have changed and some references are not applicable to BCIT.

Preparing for an IA Quiz:
- Use the Chrome browser on a Windows computer and Safari on a Mac.
- Make sure your computer and browser meet Integrity Advocate system requirements.
- Before you start a quiz, reboot your computer.
- If you can avoid it, do not use a handheld device to take the test. Use a laptop or desktop computer.
- Ensure that you are the only one accessing your WIFI at the time you take the test.
- Do not open any programs other than the required ones to take your quiz.
- Enable the default level of cookies in your browser.
- Disable any pop-up blocker.
- Disable 3rd party camera filters (e.g. to make yourself more photogenic during a video call). A filter interrupts the camera feed resulting in Integrity Advocate reporting a blank screen or the icon of the filter app itself.
- Make sure that you save the “allow” camera setting when prompted in Chrome — don’t just click on the “accept” button.
- Do not move around when taking the test. Stay in front of the camera and keep looking in the direction of the camera.
- If you encounter an issue, try a different browser i.e. Firefox or Safari. Note: Make sure you save the camera settings when prompted e.g. “remember this decision”.
