Kaltura – How to use Kaltura Capture
Kaltura capture is downloadable software that can be installed onto your personal computer. This software allows you to record videos from either your computer’s screen or webcam and uploads it into your My Media.
To access Kaltura Capture from your Learning Hub course, first go myTools and then Kaltura My Media.
From My Media, click Add New and then Kaltura Capture.
If this is your first time accessing Kaltura Capture click either Downloads for Windows or Download for Mac to install Kaltura Capture for your Operating System (Kaltura Capture is not compatible with any other Operation System beyond these two).
If you already have Kaltura Capture installed you will be prompted with a message at the top your screen. Click Open Kaltura Capture to start Kaltura Capture from your computer.
Once Kaltura Capture has been initiated, you will notice the following tool:
Using the Screen, Camera & Audio options, you can choose which computer screens, webcams or microphones you want Kaltura Capture to record video and audio from. Please note however that you can only have either two cameras, two screens or one screen and one camera recording at a time. Once you are satisfied with the options you have selected, click on the red record button to begin recording.
You can click on the stop button to stop and save the recording, the pause button to pause your recording, the cancel button to cancel the current recording or the audio icon to stop your microphone from capturing sound. The pencil icon will open up the Annotations tools which will allow you to highlight your current recording with drawings or text.
You can also select the whiteboard tool to write your annotations on. If you click the download button on the whiteboard, you can save this as a .png file on your computer.
Once you are happy with your recording click the stop button and ‘yes stop it’ to access the the preview screen which will contain the preview of your recorded footage.
Fill out the Title, Description and Tags fields and then click either Save & Upload to upload the recording into the Learning Hub’s My Media or Save to save the recording onto your own computer.
If you choose to Save and Upload a progress bar will appear indicating how much of the video has been uploaded into your My Media. Once this is complete you should be able to see the video inside My Media on the Learning Hub.
