Inserting Kaltura Media using D2L Insert Stuff tool
Learning Hub tools like: News Items, Quizzes, Discussions, Assignments and others can have Kaltura videos inserted into them using the Insert Stuff tool. The Insert Stuff tool is commonly associated with any tool in the Learning that contains an editable description field. This example shows how you can use Insert Stuff to insert Kaltura into your News Tool
- At the top of an editable description field look for this symbol
- Next, click on the symbol and click Add Kaltura Media
- You should now see that the menu contains videos from all of your Kaltura sources (My Media, Media Gallery and Playlists if you have them).
- Select the video you want to embed into the tool and click Embed
Inserting a Kaltura Quiz
The procedure for inserting Kaltura quizzes into your course is identical to inserting a normal Kaltura video into the Content tool of your course but with some added stipulations.
Optional Step: Create a Grade Item
Before starting, it is important to note that ONLY True/False and Multiple Choice type questions can automatically be graded by the Learning Hub. If you intend for other question types to be graded then you will have to manually adjust the scores of your Grade Item.
By default, Kaltura automatically creates Grade Items with a score out of 100 for Video Quizzes upon a student submission, however you can choose to manually create and insert your own custom grade items. If you decide to do the latter then please see sections 4, 5 & 7 in How to create Grades Items in your course and follow steps 8 and 9 down below.
Optional Step: Create a backup of your Kaltura Quiz (Recommended)
Although not necessary it is recommended that you create backup copies of your quizzes in My Media. This helps mitigate any problems that could potentially arise as result of mistakes either on your or the student’s end.
To create a backup of your quiz Go to My Media
- Click on your quiz
- Click on Action > Launch Editor
- Click on Save a Copy
- Go to Content and click into (or create) a new module
- Click on the ‘Add Existing Activities’ Button
- Select ‘Add Kaltura Media’
- You should open up a pop-up window containing Kaltura Media from your own My Media, Media Gallery and any create playlist if you have them
- Select which one you want to use from the tabs above
- You may click on the gear icon to change configurations like player size (Optional)
- Click on </> Embed to directly insert the Kaltura Video.
- If you have a custom grade item you have created click on the newly created Video Quiz and locate the Assessment box. Otherwise you are done and can ignore the next step.
- Click the tab underneath the Assessment box and attach the Grade Item you have created
