Class for Teams – Recordings

To record content in Class for Teams, please watch the following video and read the instructions below.

Before you can record you must be inside a Class for Teams classroom. Please go into your course offering inside the Learning Hub, then select Activities > Class for Teams. From there, click on either the Join Class room or Launch (from a scheduled session) buttons.

Start recording

  1. Select the More button in the navigation bar inside the classroom
  2. Select Record, a dialog will open with the following message:
    • This recording will capture audio and video of all users in the main room. Recording will start in a few seconds. Privacy mode is not available when you’re recording. Whiteboard is not captured in recordings, but is still available for use
  3. Select Start recording.

How do I know if the recording is on?

When the recording starts you’ll see an alert that tells you the recording has started. You can also tell a recording is active by the red recording icon in the top left corner of the Class screen. If you see the recording in progress icon, the recording is on.

What is being recorded?

The following content is recorded by default

  • Share Screen
  • All webcams
  • List of participant names and their roles (Students, Instructors, Guests, other roles)
  • Audio (Microphones)
  • Chat messages
    • Public Chat Thread (Everyone)
    • Select Private Chat Threads – Only threads that viewer of the recording has participated in will are visible to the viewer when they watch the recording. For example, if student1 and student2 have a private chat then only student 1 and student 2 will see the private chat messages when they watch the recording. The private chats between other students and instructors are not visible to them.

Additional Recording Modes

Not all tools are immediately captured upon initiating a recording inside Class for Teams. Some tools like the Whiteboards, Presentations and Files will require an additional mode to be toggling on before they can be captured. Please see this job aid for an explanation of these modes as well as a list of tools which use them.
