Kaltura – Uploading YouTube Videos
You can upload YouTube videos into Kaltura using the YouTube option that is found inside Kaltura My Media. This option works by copying and pasting shared links directly from YouTube videos and saving them as entries inside your My Media video repository.
To upload YouTube videos, go to your Kaltura My Media repository and then click on YouTube found under the Add New button.
Here you should now see a screen titled YouTube and underneath it a fillable box with the subheading Video Page Link (or Content ID)
Open up a separate tab on your browser and go to the YouTube website itself.
Find a video you want to use and then click the Share icon.
Copy the link from Share and then return to the tab on your browser that has the Kaltura YouTube screen open. Now, paste the share link under the field titled: Video Page Link (or Content ID).
Click on Preview, fill in all of the required fields and then click Save. The YouTube video should now be an entry inside your My Media and you can publish it like you would any other video entry or even make it into a quiz if you would like.
Configuration options for YouTube Videos
Please note that because YouTube is a separate propriety application with different technology running under the hood, two options are disabled from your video configurations. These options are Timelines and Downloads. You will not be able to add companion slides or chapters to these videos and you will not be able to downloads these videos.
YouTube videos instead have access to a unique option called Replace Video. This allows you to quickly replace a YouTube Video with another Youtube video and you will not need to worry about updating the metadata as this is taken care of for you.
