Class for Teams – Chat
Make your class more engaging with chat! Most people are extremely comfortable with some form of text-based communication. You may see learners participate who might be hesitant to use audio.
Select Chat from the main screen toolbar to start chatting. Active chat messages appear in the panel organized by all chats, public chats, and private chats. Select a chat to read the messages and type a message.
Tip: Select Everyone from the View menu, if you want to send a chat to the entire class.
Allow Chatting In Your Sessions
Chat is always on for instructors and assistants. But you decide who learners can chat with.
- Select the gear icon in the top right corner of the Chat panel.
- Pick one from the following options:
- No One: Chat is off for learners. Learners can still see messages that instructors send to them.
- Instructors Only: Learners can only send private messages to instructors.
- Instructors and Everyone Publicly: Learners can send private messages to instructors and messages to everyone publicly through the “Everyone” thread but private messages from learner to learner are disabled.
- Everyone (default): Learners can privately and publicly send messages to anyone.
- Reset All Chats: Erase and reset all chat messages.
Remove Chat Messages
You can’t delete chat messages but you can remove or hide them from the chat panel.
- Remove all chat messages: Select the gear icon in the top right corner of the Chat panel. Select Reset All Chats to clear all chat messages from the panel.
- Hide individual comments: Find the chat message you want to remove. Right-click on it and select Hide from Learners. This hides the message from learners. The hidden message is marked as hidden in the chat history.
How do I know when there are new chats messages?
You’ll see a notification when there is a new chat message. You can also check the Chat panel to see if there are any waiting messages.
When individuals send chat messages you’ll see bubbles by their name in the participant panel and on their video card. The bubbles are numbered to indicate how many messages they sent that are unread. Select the bubble to open the chat.
