Kaltura – Lecture Capture (FlexOS)

FlexOS (aka Kaltura Lecture Capture) is an application that is installed on Extron SMP streaming devices that are located in select classrooms across several BCIT campuses. FlexOS is ideal for when you want to record live classroom lectures or special events. Footage recorded from these devices automatically connects to your personal Kaltura My Media video repository after you punch in your employee id number (A0) into its interface.
For information on or questions related to FlexOS, please contact BCIT Audio Visual Services.
A Lengthy Note About Downloading FlexOS Footage
When recording using FlexOS, please note that SMP devices generally capture two separate streams of footage: a primary source and a secondary source. These sources exist as two independent media files under the hood and when viewed from a Kaltura player are actually played together simultaneously.
In the event you wish to download this footage from your Kaltura My Media repository, you will have to download each source independently. If you would like these two sources to be combined into a single file then you will have to manually combine them using external software like Adobe Premiere.
External software is managed by the ITS department through their Apps Anywhere platform. If you need assistance installing and using this software with this please contact ITS directly.
Alternatively you if are unfamiliar or unsure of how to use external video editing software, you can contact either Media Works in the BCIT Library or the Video Production Team in the Learning and Teaching Center, both of whom can help you with editing videos.
