How to Share Large Files on the Learning Hub

Files with sizes 1GB or more cannot be uploaded into the Learning Hub. In order to share these large files with staff or students you will have to use a shared link from BCIT OneDrive. For more information about one drive please see the following articles on the Knowledge Base or contact ITS directly.

Please note that only current BCIT faculty, staff, and students will be able to view files that are shared from OneDrive as they will need to log in with their BCIT credentials.

STEPS

Log Into OneDrive and Create Your File

  1. Go to onedrive.bcit.ca and, if necessary, login using your usual BCIT login credentials (studentsfaculty and staff).
  2. Click either +New or Upload to create or upload your file

Create a Shared Link From OneDrive

  1. Go to onedrive.bcit.ca and, if necessary, login using your usual BCIT login credentials (studentsfaculty and staff).
  2. Navigate to the file or folder you wish to share.
  3. Click on the Share icon that appears when you hover your mouse over the item.
  4.  Click the People you specify can view link below the Copy Link heading.
  5.  Click the People in BCIT with the link option in the list and then click the Apply button.
      • Note: Turning on “Allow editing” is not recommended when sharing with anyone at BCIT.
  6. Once the link has been created, click the Copy button next to it to copy the address into your clipboard.

You can now send the copied address to those you wish to share it with via email or other communication tools. Use this to create a link and paste it into the Learning Hub.

Paste the Shared Link Into The Learning Hub

  1. Go to your course on the Learning Hub and click Content.
  2. Click on your Module, then click New and Create a Link.
  3. Next, add a Title and Paste the OneDrive link into URL. Be sure to also check Open as External Resource, doing so ensures that your file opens on a separate tab instead of rendering directly on the page which can cause problems.
  4. Click Create to create the link to the file.
