Kaltura – Draft Entry

Draft Entry is a convenient tool for generating video entries inside Kaltura My Media. Creating a draft will prompt you to fill in all the required metadata necessary for publishing videos before uploading your actual video file. This is handy because it ensures that videos which are uploaded into My Media are always ready to be published into your Learning Hub courses.

Creating a draft entry

Select Draft Entry from the +Add New menu inside Kaltura My Media.

Once clicked, the Add New Draft Entry window displays.

Enter a name for your new entry (this is required). Type a description, tags, and all other required metadata fields, then click Save. The created draft entry will display a generic thumbnail image until you upload your video file.

Uploading a video file to your draft entry

Once your draft entry has been created, you can publish it into a course from your Kaltura My Media repository just as you would any other Kaltura video. However note that because there is no video file associated with it yet, only a generic image will display.

(For example, when you publish it into a course Kaltura Media Gallery)

To upload a video into a draft entry, enter your Kaltura My Media repository first and then click on the title (or thumbnail) of the draft entry.

Now from the draft entry’s display page, click on the Actions drop down menu and select Edit.

Click on the button labelled Upload from Desktop and select an mp4 file (or equivalent video file type) from your computer to upload into your draft entry.

Once the file has been uploaded, select either Keep Media to confirm your video file or Discard to cancel.

Once confirmed your file will begin processing for a few minutes and your draft entry will be converted into a video entry. If you have previously published your draft entry into a course Media Gallery or as an embed these will all update to include your uploaded video.
